FORE & FIT

Palm Beach County is showing its sporty side. All golf-obsessed eyes will be on Palm Beach Gardens when the week-long Honda Classic commences February 25 at PGA National Resort & Spa. Though Tiger Woods wont be among the competition, West Palm Beach native and second-ranked golfer Brooks Koepka will see whether he can add another championship title to his long list including winner of the past two U.S. Opens. Check out new venues and amenities from food trucks to enclosed seating and hospitality areas at the 17th hole. Then District Fit stages its third event from March 7-9 as part of the newly imagined downtown West Palm Beach. More than 20 fitness instructors and wellness experts are donating their time for the complimentary community initiative to promote healthy lifestyles (pictured).

CULTURE KIDS

Most of South Floridas art scene will be at the Miami Design Districts Moore Building on March 15. The reason is that ProjectArt, a national nonprofit that provides free art classes for children in under-resourced neighborhoods through the public library system, is bringing its third fundraiser here following successful events in New York and Los Angeles. Arison Arts Foundation president Sarah Arison, ProjectArt executive board member Kyle DeWoody, and ICA, Miami artistic director Alex Gartenfeld are chairing My Kid Could Do That - The Miami Edition. Thirty-five artists with local ties like Hernan Bas, Mark Handforth and Jen Stark are exhibiting their childhood artworks to emphasize the importance of arts education. Michele Oka Doners work is pictured here. Enjoy a silent auction and marvelous performances by tomorrows stars, too.

SUITS TO SLIPPERS

Regional hotels are offering cooler retail experiences. Sabah pops up in the Standard Miami Beachs Room 38 through March 3. The Turkish slipper maker (pictured) commissioned Brooklyn artist Maria Romero to create a textile installation with natural dyes and hosts a trunk show for the Onikas clothing on February 23 as well as a rum-spirited soire on March 2. The Breakers Palm Beachs Mix accessories boutique invites several favorite vendors such as jewelry collections Phillips House and Monica Rich Kosann for trunk shows through April. The resort also refreshed News & Gourmet for better gifts to sips. The Setai in South Beach opened the Setai Gallery, a mini-mall with stores including Blanche for womens designer labels (Zimmermann, Chloe, Aquazzura), Edoardo Borrelli for Italian bespoke suiting, and Lavish for luxe eyewear.

BEACH BALL

Palm Beach Countys sole state park, the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, was established in 1989. But it took three decades for Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park to host the inaugural MacBeach Ball. On February 23, they finally see the fundraiser to fruition at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa (3800 North Ocean Drive). Benefitting its natural science education programs to explore the 438-acre preserves floral and fauna including endangered and threatened indigenous species, the evening features live music, a buffet supper and roaring bonfire on the beach. Bring the family to see what its all about during NatureScaping: An Outdoor Festival on March 2. The day includes kayaking, kids activities, prizes, music, food trunks and a plant sale.
