What began as a week in the 1920s officially became Februarys Black History Month in 1976, the nations bicentennial. ONE Sothebys International Realty honors Black culture and the arts throughout the month and beyond. Please support these exhibits, concerts, films and special events taking place in our Florida communities that celebrate the Black American experience and their achievements.

Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series

Fort Mose Historic State Park, site of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement, hosts its annual Fort Mose Jazz & Blue Series from February 8-10 and February 16-17. The lineup features Common, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Christone Ingram with Taj Farrant, and Keb Mo with Nicole Henry. Harlem Renaissance Exhibition

On view at The Wolfsonian-FIU through June 23, Silhouettes: Image and Word in the Harlem Renaissance explores a prolific chapter in the New York neighborhoods cultural history. An explosion of creativity occurred from the 1920s-40s, as Blacks migrated from their rural roots in the South to build better lives in the North. Pompano Beach Cultural Center

Pompano Beach Cultural Center plans a packed schedule throughout Black History Month. Concerts honor legendary musicians from Nat King Cole in Cole, The Birth of King to Emancipation Blues, a tribute to Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. A jazz concert by Nicole Yarling, childrens story time, a film screening, the Pompano Beach Black History Ball and Sunday Craft Brunch are among other festivities. pompanobeacharts.org

Celebrate Black History Month by supporting Black entertainers. I Dream A World Festival

New World Symphonys I Dream A World Festival returns from February 4-25. The third edition celebrates the remarkable life and career of pianist, composer and First Lady of Jazz Mary Lou Williams through an exhibition, concerts and film. Charles Gaines

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami presents the monumental survey Charles Gaines: 1992-2023 through March 17. Along with diverse themes such as climate change, mathematics and crime, its 60 works highlight the American conceptual artists interest in racial identity and political and social movements.
