Stag Bag
Rubn de Abreu, a Miami-based architect from Caracas, founded a collection of chic leather bags for men. A play on his name, Deabreu offers five styles hand-crafted at a Tuscan workshop in neutrals and fun, tropical colors like marine blue and sunny yellow. Some sport diagonal leather details as homage to his design firm, Diagonal Studio Inc. If his name sounds familiar, its because hes been involved in the home and design world for years, having designed furniture for GioCasa in Miami and Todeschini in Brazil. Due to the lack of quality, functional bags for mens everyday lives, he set out to fill the void with an oversized folder, weekender, messenger, tote and not-your-fathers briefcase. Dont be shocked if your mother, sister or wife raids your closet.

Perhaps because they have a moment to breathe in summers quieter months, chefs are hosting special dinners galore. Bagatelles Matthieu Godard takes diners on a world tour for the taste buds with his Cuisine du Monde series featuring various ethnic specialties through November. On July 7, 13 and 21, he celebrates Greece through souvlaki, spanakopita and loukoumades. Kicking off last night, PAMMs Verde restaurant invites guest chefs to collaborate on monthly repasts served on the terrace; Michael Pirolo from Macchialina cooked a three-course meal with wine pairings on July 7, Aaron Brooks from Edge Steak & Bar on August 4, and Niven Patel from Cheeca Lodge on September 1. Meat Markets Sean Brasel partners with Quintessa Wine for buffalo tenderloin and pistachio waffles with beet relish on July 13.

Switching It Up
Caffeine fiends have a new bestie in SwitchBox. Husband and wife Brian and Miriam Protsman opened the gourmet coffee roaster in Fort Lauderdales Oakland Park earlier this month. They became experts by working at pioneering roasters in Deerfield Beach and Colorado, always knowing they wanted to return to their hometown and take it to the next level of caf culture. Wood dcor and vintage furniture create a smart and modern yet homey setting to sip drinks brewed from beans sourced through small growers. The star of the operation is a $30,000 espresso machine used by champion baristas. Other brewing options include Chemex and AeroPress, and tea drinkers arent left out with loose leaf varieties. Purchase beans and other goodies to turn your kitchen into a SwitchBox on the side.

Guava Girls
Patrons of Romanicos Chocolates can follow the sweet smell of truffles and bonbons to Venezuelan proprietor Alejandra Bigais new venture in Little Havana. She partnered with her cousin, an anthropologist, for Guayaba y Chocolate. They sell their own treats as well as macarons, alfajores and strawberry jasmine jam made by other local artisans. Anyone who has bought from Romanicos knows the endless creativity regarding ingredients (Florida oranges, cayenne pepper, dulce de leche) and hand-painted chocolates. Theres an altruistic angle, too. Students at an art school in Caracas receive the profits from chocolate boxes featuring their original drawings and paintings. Have a friend who lives or works in Calle Ocho? Lucky them, because they get a special discount as these ladies are big fans of the area.
