The Scoop: Weekend of June 23

Pressing Matter

From June 29-July 1, Macchialinas chef owner Michael Pirolo is bringing back his popular panini pop-up for lunch. The menu stars a roasted pork, broccoli rabe and fontina cheese sandwich inspired by the famous DiNics counter in the Reading Terminal Market (he recently flew in the real deal from Philadelphia, so his kitchen staff could nail it). An open-faced turkey sandwich on brioche is dressed in giblet gravy and garlic aioli. Emanate Goodfellas with a meatball parm sub or the Godfather, an Italian hero with prosciutto, mortadella, provolone and olive oil and vinegar. Vegetarians can rest easy with an eggplant, white bean and tomato panini. Add a shot of mezcal to coconut and avocado milkshakes, or share banana cream pie. Feeling generous? Order lunch for the office, since delivery is available.

Retail + Rum

Island Company, South Floridas homegrown, resort lifestyle brand, debuted its largest store and first hotel location at the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. The 3,500-square-foot boutique replete with signature rum bar is decorated with fun props like a retro Land Rover. Founder Spencer Antle decided to go bigger after selling his mens and womens fashions and accessories, home and sun care for more than a decade on property. That his new space directly faces the beach was also a no-brainer. Summer picks include a one-shoulder mini-dress in white linen and maxi indigo caftan with side buttons. Need a gift? Purchase tropical-scented candles made with a hand-poured, natural soy blend in fragrances like banana daiquiri and Tahitian vanilla. Visit his West Palm Beach and Naples shops, too.

Farm Fresh

If you think the end of Miamis growing season means no fresh produce at farm stands, then head to the Upper Eastside Farmers Market at Legion Park on Saturdays. The year-round event imports organic fruits and veggies from northern Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Heres a glimpse of this weeks items: spaghetti squash, blackberries, watermelons, Vidalia onions and shitake mushrooms. Florida-based Seelys Ark and Arrowhead Beef provide poultry and NY strip, respectively. Create an instant picnic with Indian chutneys and spreads from Nishas, and hummus including rosemary artichoke or black bean from Seeleys. Flavored kombucha, smoked fish dips and goats milk kefir complete your list. While shopping, sip a juice perfectly concocted by Clive at Nature Boyzs booth; recipes feature sugarcane, mango, the exotic rose apple and more.
