South Beachs iconic night life has a new haunt. Byblos, the delicious Mediterranean import from Toronto, expands with a 2,300-square-foot lounge on June 2. Velvet seating surrounds the statement bars silver and gold mirror fashioned into a snazzy zigzag pattern. Natural, wide-plank oak floors and geometric textiles link to the dining rooms seaside design.
The idea is to transport guests atop their ottomans to an exotic localea perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Collins Avenue. The adventurous mood extends to cocktail service performed as a traditional Middle Eastern tea ritual. After closing briefly to revamp their rich menu, founding couple Cesar Zapata and Ani Meinhold reopened as The Fed with healthier dishes like cilantro edamame hummus and salmon poke. They address fast casual dinings obsession with carb-less bowls through build-your-own salads with proteins and other tasty toppings.
Hailing from the Lone Star State, Zapata also used the time to create new recipes: custom fajitas, corn tostadas (go for the Gulf-sourced seafood) and tortas (burgers and grilled cheese with a twist).
