Brickell City Centre recently hosted the Brickell Traffic and the Road Ahead Panel. The panel focused on Brickells traffic solutions amid the areas impending growth. More than 150 of Miamis most important brokers, including many from our ONE Sir team were in attendance to learn how Brickell City Centre is addressing traffic concerns for the Brickell/Downtown area.
Previously, construction in the area has brought traffic complications, but Brickell City Centre is at the forefront of mitigating those concerns. They are working with a wide range of officials and interested parties. Panelists included city leaders: Lisa Colmenares from FDOT, Art Noriega of Miami Parking Authority, Eric Riel of the Downtown Development Authority, Chris Gandolfo of Swire Properties, Albert Hernandez from Miami-Dade Transit, David Henerson of the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization and Frank Aira from Miami-Dade County Public Works.
- Signage: A total of 292 signs have a Fall 2015 expected installation date, providing information for drivers about routes to destinations, governmental/educational facilities and parking.
- Public Transportation: All Aboard Florida will provide rail service from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando beginning in Dec. 2016. Additionally, Tri-Rail Miami is extending into Downtown, majorly impacting access to the area via public transportation. Improvements to existing bus, metro and metromover stations are already underway. Miami-Dade Transit is working to create a number of transit-oriented developments (TOD), including Brickell City Centre. A TOD is a mixed use residential and commercial area designed to maximize access to public transportation.
- Expansion Studies: Currently FDOT District Six has two studies in the area: the Project Development and Environment Study of SR 90/SW 7 St/SW 8 St, and the Interstate 95 Corridor Planning Study from US-1/SR-5 to Miami-Dade/Broward County Line. Miami-Dade Transit is looking into expanding the metromever system to include a South Inner Loop, which connects to the existing Brickell Loop.
These represent only a portion of current and planned projects focused on alleviating traffic in the Brickell/Downtown areas. There are multiple solutions both short and medium term to not just alleviate the traffic but to make Brickell a more accessible city overall. It is all to the benefit of residents and visitors.
