Sothebys 2013 Wine Winners

There are a lot of end of year wrap ups from Sothebys Auction House - top auctions executed, major properties sold - but one of our favorites is the annual report on their top wines. Sothebys Wine Ranking is based on units sold and for 2013, a small vineyard in Burgundy was the best-seller at the auction house. Of Sothebys $58 million in total wine sales, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) represented $7.2 million of that.

Chteau Latour Pomerol 1961 sold for just under $14,000 a bottle in London, making the case the most expensive sold last year. And Asian buyers knocked out buyers in London and NYC. Total fine wine sales from Hong Kong totalled $25.5 million, London sales came in at $20 million, and New York at $12.5 million.

The auction house also ranked the top-selling wine producers by region: Lafite ranked first In Bordeaux, DRC topped the Burgundy list. Dom Perignon was the lead in premier Champagne, Opus One was winner in California, while Italian Massetto was ranked first in that area of Europe.
