Miami- Dade County Public School Accelerated Magnet Programs

As Miami-Dades students start a new school year, nearly 44,000 are enrolled in Magnet programs that focus on specialized curriculum. With a total of 375 magnet programs in areas that include Careers and Professions, International Programs, Liberal Arts, Math, Science and Technology and Visual and Performing arts, the district has one of the largest representations in the entire country. These programs designed to offer a unique educational experience that focuses on the special interests and abilities of students and gives a hands on approach to the learning process. For the 2012-2013 school year 34 new magnet programs have been added in 24 schools offering new strands such as legal studies, finance, information technology and architecture among others.

The Miami-Dade County Public School magnet program has been recognized at a national scale receiving awards from prestigious educational organizations. Some of the highlights of these recognitions include:

    • 4 magnet high schools were named among Newsweeks list of the top 1,000 schools in the country
    • 37 magnet high schools were ranked among the Washington Posts most challenging schools
    • 2 magnet high schools were ranked #1 & #2 in Florida by US News and World Report
    • 22 magnet high schools were ranked in the top 100 in Florida by US News and World Report
    • 21 magnet schools were recognized as Magnet Schools of Excellence or Magnet Schools of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America (MSA) including the Best Elementary Magnet School in the Country
