On May 27th and 28th Sotheby's Latin American Art Sale in New York City will feature 245 pieces created by masters that include Wilfredo Lam, Leonora Carrington, Matta and Emilio Pettoruti. The exclusive selection of paintings and sculptures is expected to set record sales for the artists, in particular Diego Rivera's 'Tejedora y Los Ninos" (Weaver and the Children), which has been kept from the public in a private collection for 50+ years. Overall total figures of the sale are estimated at approximately $18.6-25.2 million.

Included in the auction will be several iconic paintings from each decade of Fernando Botero's life. The evolution of his techniques are depicted in works ranging from a Van Gogh inspired still life 'Florero' (1962) to a sculpture from 2007 'Che Cammina'. One of the highlights of the artwork for sale is the earliest abstract piece created in Latin America- Emilio Pettoruti's 'Armonia Movimento Spazio- Disegno Astratto' from 1914. The painting is a reflection of the influence that the Futurist movement had on the artist. All of the high-quality pieces in the sale represent vibrant elements of the Latin culture and the auction will encourage a much needed revival of this art market. On May 27th and 28th Sotheby's Latin American Art Sale in New York City will feature 245 pieces created by masters that include Wilfredo Lam, Leonora Carrington, Matta and Emilio Pettoruti.
