Entitled American Art, the latest Sothebys art auction was held on November 13in New York City. The sale mainly comprised of paintings but diversity came in the form of a small number of sculpture pieces. The works were available for public viewing in exhibition for ten days prior to the auction.
Among the highlights of the auction weretwo paintings by Georgia OKeeffe from a private California estate; Blue and White Abstraction, and Shell (Shell IV, The Shell, Shell I) these quintessentially OKeefe pieces demonstrate her mastery of form and color.

Other key pieces were Milton AverysSunset Seaa luminous workfrom 1960as well as several strong examples by Western artists including Ernest Blumenschein, Oscar Berninghaus and Maynard Dixon. Sothebys was also honored to include works from the Mellon Family Collection and Elizabeth A. Keck Collection in the auction.

The total sales of the auctioned pieces reached over $19.4M USD and a number of the pieces were sold to benefit the Berkshire Museum. See all the lots from the auction here.
