Go Dutch
The Wolfsonian-FIU hosts a private reception tonight for Modern Dutch Design, an overview into how the Netherlands became a flourishing design hub that continues to this day. More than 200 works dating from 1890 to 1940, such as furniture and graphics, explore how these creative pioneers were inspired not only by new customs at home at the turn of the century but exotic cultures exposed through their countrys colonies. The result culminates in the streamlined minimalism and primary colors favored by De Stijl (The Style), a movement whose impact still resonates according to Wolfsonian and exhibit curator Silvia Barisione. Works from the Amsterdam School and Nieuwe Kunst, or Art Nouveau, are also represented. Hague artist Christie van der Haaks vibrant tapestry patterns wrap the museums exterior and lobby, too, through June 11, 2017. 1001 Washington Avenue; 305.531.1001; wolfsonian.org

Room Reboot
Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa unveils its 650 renovated guest rooms and suites. Begun in spring, the project upgrades 11 room categories from Intracoastal Waterway views to the oceanfront presidential suite with tranquil dcor. Natural meets neutral in pale woods and linen fabrics. The beachy locale is picked up through artworks with marine motifs and sand-colored furniture. Even the carpet pattern mimics sunrays and waves of sand. The makeover installed modern conveniences, too, like keyless door locks and showers versus the original bathtubs for the majority of rooms. Baths also feature new pocket doors. The 16-acre property has been busy. 3030 Ocean, its seafood restaurant, was remodeled earlier this year for a fresh setting with tempered glass walls. Sandy, a black Labrador and new house mascot, greets guests. 3030 Holiday Drive; 954.525.4000; harborbeachmarriott.com

Zuma Zooms
Restaurateur Arjun Waney is on a roll. Following his immensely successful Zuma and Coya, the Miami transplant is opening La Petite Maison and Da back to back here. First up is Da, which launches next week. Its name, the Japanese word for door, reflects the eclectic menus entrance into the world of Latin American Asian cuisine, dubbed LatAsian. Waney describes the direction as Peruvian Chifa and Nikkei. There will also be Perus signature ceviches, along with charcoal robata-grilled meats and veggies, and one-bite snacks inspired by dim sum. Heartier fare ranges from steamed buns with pork belly to hot pots. Finish with chocolate lucuma fondant, pictured. As his first venture in Miami Beach, the concept offers late-night dining seven days a week with DJs and more approachable, easy dishes. 2000 Collins Avenue; 305.587.2000; doacantina.com
