Since opening earlier this year, Lappartement lifestyle store has appeared in the pages of Wallpaper and Modern Magazine for its well-edited European imports and artworks displayed as if the 3,500-square-foot showroom were a real residence. The visionaries behind the poetic concept are Emmanuelle Bernard, an interior and film set designer, and her husband, Christian, both of whom resided in France and Spain for decades. A For Alfred
One of Floridas most famous midcentury-modern architects is the subject of an overdue retrospective at HistoryMiami Museum. The Discipline of Nature: Architect Alfred Browning Parker celebrates the centennial anniversary of the Miami transplant and University of Florida graduates birth by exploring his life and prolific, 60-year career. Through approximately 500 projects, including a modular, Tropex-pansible home, the humble designer left his mark on organic, sustainable modernism years ahead of its time. On October 16, co-curator Allan Shulman leads a members tour for a maximum of 30 guests. He joins a conversation with co-curator Randolph C. Henning and David Rifkind, associate professor at FIUs College of Architecture and the Arts, on November 17. Poke Power
Leave it to a hip South Florida hospitality crew to import the poke trend to Fort Lauderdale. Memphis Garrett, former director of operations for SLS Hotels, David Cardaci, owner of the Whole Enchilada and Rhythm & Vine, and a slew of partners, including actor Adam Ross of CSI: NY, launch the first of five Poke House restaurants on Monday. Build your own bowl with seafood such as salmon and yellowtail (or tofu for vegetarians), a base from quinoa to kale, and finally, a buffet of 20 toppings and sauces. Or let them do the work for the last two steps through themed bowls like Coco Beach Floridas spicy passion fruit, salsa fresca and plantain chips. Start and end with sake via infused cocktails and fresh fruit.

The Illusionist
PAMM debuts its much-anticipated, newly commissioned exhibit Sarah Oppenheimer: S-281913 with a reception and talk by the New York artist tonight at 7 p.m. PAMM curator Ren Morales organized the installation of rotating glass elements with a strong architectural component that plays tricks on the mind to fun-house effects. Viewers are teased between seeing nothing through empty, transparent illusions, and their reflections in dizzying angles that turn the Meyerhoff Greene Focus Gallery upside down and inside out. She describes the two states as switches. The result produces deeper insight into reality, the museum and Biscayne Bay like never before, an exercise in philosophical questioning that the Texan hopes viewers apply to other facets in their everyday lives. Experience this astonishing, complex project through April 30, 2017.
