The Scoop: Weekend of July 28th

Gild The Lily

The Norton Museum of Art offers free entrance as it awaits its dazzling redesign and expansion including a 42,000-square-foot West Wing and sculpture garden by Lord Norman Foster in 2018. So its a good excuse for a day trip to West Palm Beach for two stellar exhibits. Monet Foundation artist-in-residence Mark Fox shot a digital underwater video of the Impressionists famed water lily ponds in France for Giverny: Journal of an Unseen Garden, which is on view through October 30. The work explores light and shadow throughout the day just as Claude Monet and his movement masterfully captured in their paintings. Pop Art sensation Roy Lichtenstein also pays homage to Giverny in a large-scale print on stainless steel exhibited in Spotlight: Lichtenstein and Monet through August 21.

Young Turk

Trina Turk celebrated its new home on the mainland by hosting a party with the Wolfsonian in honor of the museums Cuban Allure exhibit. The California designer and her husband who designs Mr. Turk menswear were drawn to the Upper Eastsides midcentury modern architecture and ample space to showcase their full vision including home and sunglasses. Launching in September, vintage-inspired frames made of Japanese and Italian acetates sport the brands signature bold prints and colors like hot pink. After years of requesting more merchandise, men finally have the whole shebang from Clyde slim trousers in a black and white optical print; to the Gregory floral tuxedo, to Chico pink and green striped swim trunks. Womens athleisure wear includes a crop top and leggings in a pink and yellow pineapple print.

Following Coral Gables and South Beach, Cibo Wine Bar opened its third Florida location in Fort Lauderdale. The addition serves the same simple Italian fare but differs through a salumeria with cured meats from Italy. The rustic setting with butcher block tables centers on a signature, glass-encased wine wall, in which wine angels glide down like trapeze artists to fetch bottles of Chianti and Malbec. The owners commissioned Andrew Reid to paint a mural of Life is Beautiful along a 40-foot brick wall. Dont fill up on homemade bread because a lot of delicious dishes are on the way: fried zucchini and artichokes dipped in roasted red pepper and lemon lime aioli; pappardelle with lamb ragu and shaved pecorino, and gorgonzola, walnut and pear pizza.
