The Scoop: Weekend of July 22

Farm Aid

The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale unveiled Burlock Coast restaurant and beachside bar as part of its extensive renovation. Chef de cuisine Gavin Pera sources from premier Florida farms and ranches including Hammock Hallow near Gainesville. Begin with squash blossoms drizzled in honey, and fried oysters and pickled peppers with remoulade for a taste of New Orleans. He fishes local waters, too, for Cedar Key clams, snapper, which is served with red quinoa and a tomato vinaigrette, and black grouper, whose cassoulet and lemon verbena please Francophiles. For land items, he travels to Palmetto Creek for pork chops aside corn and ramps, and Lake Meadow for chickens presented in half portions with peas and carrots like Sunday supper. During brunch, add a duck egg to burgers slathered with rum bacon jam.

Mon Deux!

Not many cities claim two Givenchy stores. The French house quickly followed up its new Miami Design District location with an Aventura address. Modeled on its flagship at 28 rue du Faubourg du Saint-Honor in Paris, Aventuras 2,400-square-foot design displays a brilliant array of accessories in light niches and black podiums, and ready to wear in half-closed, black lacquered boxes modeled after the ones Hubert de Givenchy used to package haute couture dresses. Creative director Riccardo Tisci, whos been with the house since 2005, breaks down mens and womens collections into seasonal trends, classic pieces and urban armor. The Fall/Winter 2016 womens collection sails down the Nile with Egyptian eyes and fierce falcons; his Horizon bag also tops fashion editors lists. See the whole statement when September issues hit newsstands.

True Blue

Famed resortwear retailer Planet Blue opened its first Florida store in South Beach during Miami Swim Week. Hawaiian transplant Ling-Su Chinn began with a tiny boutique in southern California 20 years ago. Her designs pioneered the organic trend with soft, cotton garments in tie-dye prints. Her vision has expanded to Blue Life, an in-house collection including ready to wear, swim, athleisure and t-shirts founded in 2010, as well as other like-minded brands including Frankies Bikinis, One Teaspoon and For Love & Lemons. Taking a cue from her Art Deco surroundings, she went with white dcor including a mother-of-pearl counter for the 1,800-square-foot store. Surf photographer Matt Schwartzs polaroid snaps of beaches from around the world form a wall installation; collectors can also pick up exclusive works by the Brooklyn artist.
