SABAH & STYLE SAVES

Here are some fun fashion events on deck. Sabah, a New York shoe company known for leather loafers and mules made in Turkey, is collaborating with the Standard Miami Beach on a mule in an exclusive color. The shell pink Baba style launches Sunday during a soiree hosted by Sabah founder Mickey Ashmore. Shoppers can also pick up the full collection (leopard print, two-toned, stripes) at Sabah’s pop up at the hotel through March 4. If you haven’t gotten a chance to visit the Museum of Ice Cream (3400 Collins Avenue), stop by for Style Saves’ fundraiser on Sunday. The treat-filled activation is donating all ticket proceeds to the nonprofit that provides students with school supplies and clothes. They hope to raise $20,000 for Project Prom, an initiative for homeless students.

GLORIOUS GARDENS

With gardens at their peak, it must be time for tours and festivals. The Villagers, a historic preservation society in Coral Gables, has arranged visits to two properties in South Miami and Redland on March 3. In addition to seeing orchids, water features and restored hardwood hammocks, attendees receive refreshments and are invited to browse the garden boutique. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will be swarming with orchid lovers from March 9-11. Its 16th annual International Orchid Festival features vendors, speakers and exhibits with more than 10,000 orchids. Have tea and learn about the Million Orchid Project to refurbish native species throughout Miami-Dade County too. Six residents of Miami Beach are opening their yards for the 17th annual Miami Beach Garden Tour on March 10 to benefit Miami Beach Botanical Garden.

PLANTA GROWS

South Beach is turning into Little Toronto. Planta, the latest import to open, shouldn’t be confused with Plant Miami at the Sacred Space in Wynwood, though both concepts focus on trendy, elevated, plant-based cuisine. Executive chef David Lee, who also helms the original, as well as Planta Burger back in Canada, created only-in-Miami dishes. Exclusive items include Trofie pasta, truffled mushroom Bolognese with almond parmesan; 6ix Pizza topped with roasted rosemary potatoes, kale and capers, and the South Pointe salad of spiralized zucchini, fennel and Florida citrus. He adds a unique, plant-based sushi bar here, too, for clever vegan versions of the fare. Watermelon and carrot stand in for ahi tuna and salmon, respectively. Shiso wraps and maki rolls are also available, but save room for avocado lime cheesecake.

ON THE BALL

Palm Beach County packs in sports this time of year. Spring training takes over Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Abacoa, an idyllic community in Jupiter. Catch home teams, St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins, play the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, Houston Astros and other MLB teams, through March 25. Several teams haven’t played here in a while, so tickets are in high demand. Damian Walker, a U.S. singles squash champion, world circuit player and well-known coach for all ages and levels, opened Palm Beach Squash Club in the newly minted District enclave in West Palm Beach. Capping memberships to 75 squash addicts (and their guests), he offers one singles court and one doubles court. The latter is quite rare for the Sunshine State.
