The Scoop: Weekend of February 22nd

LILLY’S LAIR

Lilly Pulitzer was the consummate hostess during her legendary life that put Palm Beach on the map, and no visit to the island was complete without a cocktail at her home or shopping spree in her boutique. Her namesake brand continues the tradition with a hospitality lounge and pop-up boutique this weekend during the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens. Between rooting for last year’s tournament winner Rickie Fowler to defend his title, shop the limited-edition collection with a blousy top, necktie, cap, tote, scarf and skort in an exclusive pink and green (her iconic colors) print. A percentage of sales will be donated to Honda Classic Cares, which raised a record-breaking $3.63 million for 133 local nonprofits for children in 2017.

HUZZAH ZAHA!

The late architect Zaha Hadid may be gone but certainly not forgotten. PBS recently aired an episode of “Impossible Builds” about One Thousand Museum, her pending Miami residences known as the Scorpion Tower. Her eponymous Foundation, the Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) and MISO artist-in-residence Sandra Muss collaborated on “The Poetry of Music and Design,” a tribute inspired by her site-specific installation, “Elastika,” in the Miami Design District’s Moore Building. The performance takes place there on February 25 at 6 p.m. MISO maestro Eduardo Marturet composed “@Zaha’s Place” for a soprano vocalist and oboist, while Muss created three, large-scale sculptures in stainless steel whose biomorphic-laced crevices evoke Hadid’s preference for organic forms. Muss’s work has been exhibited at the Kreeger Museum in Washington D.C. and Volta NY art fair.

CUT & COLOR ABOVE

Two of New York’s most acclaimed hair salons expanded to South Florida. Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa opened in Palm Beach, though its founder actually got his start in Miami Beach. The Vidal Sassoon-trained stylist also spent time in London before launching his own empire with a focus on simple, elegant cuts and overall hair wellness. He pops down here at least once a month to visit clients at his beachy outpost with driftwood wall accents. Meet him at his grand opening party on February 24. Celebrities and fashion editors are obsessed with hair colorist Marie Robinson, pictured, so her second sleek salon in Miami’s Little River is probably already on their speed dials. Chances are you’ve spotted her work in Vogue and blockbusters like Black Swan.

CHEW CHEW

Miami isn’t the only South Florida city to receive the food-hall trend. Grandview Public Market opened its doors in West Palm Beach on February 20. The 14,000-square-foot dining destination anchors the District, a newly gentrified collection of warehouses along the Florida East Coast Railway. Palm Beach native Chris Vila hatched the idea to bring the communal culinary concept home upon visiting Chelsea Market in New York and Krog Street Market in Atlanta, and looked no further than his wife, Kristen, to design its interiors. A dozen vendors range from Clare’s, a chicken joint, and the Corner for Detroit-style pizza by Top Chef Dale Talde to Crema’s all-natural ice cream to local purveyors Rabbit Coffee and Celis Produce. Musicians, movie nights and farmer’s markets are more reasons to stop by.
