The Scoop: Weekend of July 27th

SUMMER ROMANCE

Zimmermann, a boho luxe brand from Australia, launched its first Florida store in Bal Harbour. Aside from romantic ready to wear and resortwear, the location carries exclusive handcrafted sunglasses from its collaboration with British eyewear maker Cutler and Gross. Founders and sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann celebrated the grand opening during Miami swim week. They founded the ultra-feminine collection of vintage-inspired dresses in all-over lace and sheer floral prints, peasant blouses and sophisticated bathing suits in Sydney in the early Nineties. Their U.S. retail expansion focuses on New York, Los Angeles and Miami, though they’ve been represented through luxury department stores and online retailers here for a while. Australian architect Don McQualter’s abundant use of arches throughout the all-white setting lends a touch of exoticism.

HOME OF HUMMUS

It seems like only yesterday that Philly’s CookNSolo hospitality group imported Federal Donuts to Wynwood. They’re already back with Dizengoff, the complete opposite of its adjacent sister restaurant’s fried fare. The authentic Israeli hummusiya borrows its inspiration from the stalls along its namesake street in Tel Aviv. Famous for his native Israeli cuisine, CookNSolo executive chef partner Michael Solomonov has perfected hummus to an art form by whipping the finest tahini with cooked chickpeas, cumin, garlic and lemon. The star dish comes with a variety of toppings like avocado and harissa, or spiced lamb and pine nuts. All are served with hearth-baked pita, chopped salad and Israeli pickles. Sip a frozen mint lemonade like they do in Israel for the full experience. Shakshuka, spicy baked eggs, is a Sunday special.

HEAVEN SCENT

Jo Malone London is the first retailer to bow in the sleek new 1111 Addition around the corner from 1111 Lincoln Road, “the parking garage building.” The British fragrance, bath and home brand’s arrival in summer couldn’t be better either with the introduction of its Exfoliating Shower Gel. Scents are Vibrant Geranium & Walnut, Lime Basil & Mandarin with a touch of thyme, and Pomegranate Noir with notes of Casablanca lily, raspberry, plum and pink pepper. At $40, it makes an ideal gift too (along with a selection of candles, soaps and room sprays). Browse other bespoke colognes, whether Lime Basil & Mandarin or Myrrh & Tonka, wrapped in the company’s iconic cream and black boxes. Pamper yourself, too, with a hand and arm massage at the Tasting Bar.

TACOS + TOUR

Looking for something the whole family can do this Friday night? Head to Coral Gables where Miracle Mile restaurants and stores between Douglas Road and Galiano Street are organizing an open house with style, treats and a $250 raffle of beauty and fashion prizes. Receive special offers at destinations like Emporium lifestyle boutique, Morelia Gourmet Paletas and Jolure Beauty Atelier, including blowouts and other services. It’s also a good excuse to dine at Plomo Tequila & Taco Bar from the same owners as Copper 29 and Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar. The extensive menu features combos such as El Taco Volador, tuna and salmon tartare served in crispy hard shells; and El Guero, beer-battered shrimp topped with chipotle aioli in not one, but two shells—crunchy corn and a flour tortilla.
