Brickell City Centre is taking holiday lights to another level, as in “Lights, Camera, Action!” The open-air, mixed-use destination tapped a venerable Hollywood set designer for its holiday decorations. Kirk M. Petruccelli has created fantastical worlds for The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic 4 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, among dozens of films. Based on the theme “Journey of the Snowflake,” his expansive installation invites viewers to interact with faux snow, brilliantly lit trees and floating snowflakes. But there’s more to the story than bringing a winter wonderland to tropical Miami.
“We chose him because of his work with sustainable materials,” said Clare Laverty, vice president of marketing and public relations for Swire Properties, Inc., regarding his use of recyclable materials and technology. “We look for materials that are good for the environment.”
To get everyone into the holiday spirit even more so, BCC also programmed special events and activities. Watch “Home Alone” on the South Miami Bridge while munching popcorn and sipping hot cocoa Friday, December 16 at 6 p.m. Blankets and bean bags will be provided to get cozy.
Santa Claus comes to town on December 18, from 2-5 p.m. He and his elves are hosting Santa’s Workshop with multiple arts and crafts stations to decorate ornaments and wreaths on the same day from 1-3 p.m.
Need to do some last-minute holiday shopping and stumped for a gift? To celebrate its second boutique in the city, diptyque issued an exclusive Miami candle. The holder’s jungle green glass and banana leaf pattern are inspired by the fun décor at the Parisian brand’s Bal Harbour store. Inspired by magnolia blossoms, its vanilla, jasmine and citrus notes are also reminiscent of Florida’s most famous dessert, key lime pie.
Acqua di Parma, which recently opened its first U.S. location in BCC, is another easy place to pick up quick presents. Browse its famous Colonias for men, Le Nobili floral fragrances for women, and Blu Mediterraneo fragrances, an homage to Italy’s coast.
Don’t worry about wrapping gifts either. From December 19-23, BCC provides complimentary wrapping for items with a receipt from an onsite store; experts will also lead tutorials on how to wrap the perfect present.
