Contemporary high rises. Water views. International. One very famous mall.

Judging from its tremendous, well-planned development, it’s hard to believe Aventura, the city of Excellence, was only founded in 1995.

Transplanted from major metropolitan areas, most of its residents prefer the high-rise life style. Luxury towers with lavish fitness centers, pool decks and tennis courts have sprouted all over its 3.2 square miles wedged along the Intracoastal Waterway in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County. Many residents sip their coffee and soak in tubs overlooking the glittering Atlantic Ocean before hitting the famed Aventura Mall for a shopping spree at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Louis Vuitton, among other incredible stores. Within a five-minute drive, they can catch a film, stock up at Whole Foods and grab a bite at an array of restaurants along the city’s dense strip of Biscayne Boulevard.

Though shopping put it on the map, the city also supports an impressive Arts & Cultural Center, Community Recreation Center and Miami-Dade’s first municipal-run charter school for K-8. An assortment of families, retirees and professionals have transformed Aventura’s dog parks, playgrounds and jogging paths into their social salons. Easy access to international airports in Miami and Fort Lauderdale is another important perk of this booming location.
