The Brickell area of Miami is located just South of Downtown Miami and is financial district by day and entertainment hot spot by night.
Miami Pioneer Mary Brickell and her husband William originally used the Brickell area as am Indian Trading post because of its proximity to the Miami River. By the early 1900s, the Brickell residential area was a bedroom community for early Miami pioneers. Historically significant estates, called Millionaire's Row, once populated Brickell Avenue along Biscayne Bay. In the 1970's the demolition of these estates made way for high rise condominiums. The 1980s television show Miami Vice, featured the gleaming architecturally stunning condominium skyline that many people associate with this area. A small single family community along South Miami Avenue still remains as a memory of those early Miami Days.
The twenty first century brought the addition of 5 star hotels, 5,000 more condominium units and Mary Brickell Village. Mary Brickell Village has just under 200,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space and has virtually recreated the Brickell area as a night time destination.
The Brickell area has many parks and is a popular biking and walking area. The Metromover provides a comprehensive public transportation solution and connects to the heavy rail system in Downtown Miami.
