Social Media Day Miami a Big Hit in Wynwood Art Gallery

June 30 is an internationally recognized day across the globe to celebrate social media.  Mashable, a leading online publication on the subject of all things social media, spearheads the movement, which started in 2010.

Miami went all out this year with a core group of South Florida social media influencers who organized a free, sponsored event at Zadok, one of Miami’s finest art galleries in the burgeoning Wynwood art district.

Eighteen speakers covered topics ranging from blogging to social media marketing in the span of four hours.  Frederic Montagnon, co-founder of Overblog — an event title sponsor — traveled from Paris to be present as keynote speaker and major supporter of Miami’s social media community.  Other attendees included social media aficionados from Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, but others came even as far as England to participate in the educational talks as well as festivities.

The spirited day concluded with an after-party at Wood Tavern, a trendy pub just around the corner from  Zadok art gallery.

A select number of members from Social Media Club South Florida – one of the most active and dynamic chapters in the world, with over 2,500 members who meet regularly to discuss and share information about social media — also bolstered this grassroots event with volunteer time to make it a successful learning experience.

Miami Checks-In to Celebrate Foursquare Day!

April 16th was the official Foursquare Day throughout the globe! In Miami, the social media movers and shakers participated in several events throughout the city, while they checked in, earned badges and mingled with friends.

The day kicked off with a breakfast at Miami’s historic bar, Tobacco Road, where a panel of experts led a Q&A session on the best practices for using Foursquare. They gave tips on how to use it for business and how to explore your community by checking-in. A representative from the City of Miami was present and officially declared it Foursquare Day!

In the afternoon guests gathered at Balans on Lincoln Road to talk social media and sip delicious mojitos and refreshing cocktails. Everyone enjoyed Foursquare Day Happy Hour specials.

The group then moved on to Jimmy’Z Kitchen in Wynwood for delicious Foursquare Day dinner specials. For every check-in each patron received a complimentary dessert and coffee as well as special prices on a large craft beer selection.

Overall, Foursquare Day was a wonderful time to share with Miami’s social media community and prove that our city is certainly at the forefront of technology and networking. See you next time mayors!
