This weekend is the perfect time to check out new restaurants and activities in Coconut Grove. The Coral Reef Yacht Club’s former chef and his Peruvian wife opened 33 Kitchen. The couple is winning over regulars with homemade aji amarillo, corvina ceviche and Chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) dishes. Save room for yuzu pie, whose tart taste is reminiscent of key lime, served in a Mason jar with whipped cream. The LoKal’s owners sate seafood and cider cravings with their new Spillover (pictured). Marine fare for Key West conch salad, lobster BLT’s and Gulf shrimp mac and cheese is sustainably sourced from Trigger Seafood. On May 21, explore the historic neighborhood through a complimentary bike tour. Held every first and third Saturday morning, rides meet in front of City Hall (3500 Pan-American Drive). Sign up here.
It seems that for every juice bar that opens, a doughnut or taco shop isn’t far behind. South Miami now claims both. Honeybee Doughnuts uses buttermilk recipes from the founder’s Italian grandmother decorated with cute bee confections. It’s no surprise that low-fat and gluten-free versions, such as the banana beehive pastry, don’t outsell the decadent maple bacon doughnut. Other hits are guava and cheese; Valrhona chocolate and pecans, and dulce de leche topped with fresh berries. The South Florida dining team behind ROK: BRGR expands with TacoCraft across the street soon. Just like the original location in Fort Lauderdale, it specializes in authentic Mexican street fare down to homemade tortillas. With more than 150 types of tequila, expect a killer happy hour too. Hours extend to late night and brunch.

Speaking of East, Miami, Brickell’s brand-new hotel welcomes guests beginning May 31. With properties in Hong Kong and Beijing, it’s the brand’s foray into the Western Hemisphere. Accommodations including 352 rooms, suites and residences—which add up to three bedrooms, full kitchens and laundry facilities—range from 300 to 1,800 square feet. Their contemporary design features rain showers and floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s also great news for local and visiting foodies alike. Before the hotel’s big reveal, diners are welcome to book a table at Quinto La Huella as of May 23.
