Alexander McQueen’s Bal Harbour boutique is finally here. Not only does it mark the fashion house’s first new store in four years, but the premiere of its updated design prototype. Patrons may be surprised not to see stark-white minimal interiors reminiscent of Star Wars sets anymore. In their place are richer, warmer materials, though always with his signature Gothic grim and fetish flair such as smashed marble floors and plaster panels with tiny skulls and gargoyles. A cool palette of dove gray and lilac softens the rough luxury vibe, while blush-pink glass lighting inspired by a coral reef flatters shoppers. Sorry blokes, it’s just women’s wear and accessories for now.
